FAQs - IPL Photo Rejuvenation

What is Photo Rejuvenation? - How does it work?
We use Intense Pulse Light (IPL) technology to direct targeted light energy at the affected areas. Each pulse produces specific light wavelengths that are absorbed into the skin and turned into heat energy. The heat energy stimulates the cells that produce elastin and collagen, encouraging the skin to grow, reducing wrinkles and leaving the skin looking renewed.

Will it hurt?
Any discomfort during the treatment is limited to an extremely short pulse which clients report as feeling like a rubber band snap. This may range from mild to moderate and does not last long. A burning sensation may last for up to one hour, for which a cold compress or ice pack may be used.

How well will my skin heal following laser treatment?
The skin should be treated gently for a few days following treatment.  Apply any creams or makeup gently and do not rub.  Makeup may be applied immediately after treatment as long as the skin is not broken. Mineral make-up is preferred as this helps the healing process. There is the slight possibility of developing a crust or blister. This is superficial, does not result in scarring and is treated like sunburn or any other blister. If necessary, the doctor will prescribe antibiotic cream.

Will there be any pigment changes to my skin?
In most cases, the treated areas heal without any pigment changes.  However, hyper-pigmentation (darker) or hypo-pigmentation (lighter) areas may occur, but these are usually temporary and will fade within 1-6 months.  It is very important that you avoid exposure to the sun following laser treatment, as this may intensify hyper-pigmentation.  It is rare for a change to be permanent.

Will I experience any swelling?
This occurs occasionally after treatment, especially if the face has been treated.  It is temporary and not harmful and cold packs or a hydrocortisone preparation will help to reduce it.

Will there be any bruising?
Again, this is rare, but should it occur, it will clear in 4-7 days.  As the purple bruise fades, there may be a brownish stain which will resolve with time, usually within 3 months.

What are the benefits of Skin Rejuvenation?
Recovery time is quick (within 24 hours) and the results are natural and gradual to reveal smoother, fresher, more youthful skin.
