FAQS - Dermal Fillers

What is Juvederm®?
It is a crystal-clear gel form of hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that occurs naturally in the body. Hylauronic acid gives volume to the skin by holding water and hydrating it, over time our levels are reduced.

How long does it last?
Juvederm® normally lasts 6 months to over a year. However, the length of time varies depending on the individual and the area to be treated. It is not permanent and is absorbed naturally over time.

How does it work?
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body. The function of hyaluronic acid is to keep the skin smooth and elastic. Juvederm® works by replenishing the hyaluronic acid that has been depleted with age. As the gel slowly breaks down over time, water takes its place. The less concentrated the gel becomes, the more water it is able to bind. This is the main reason the effect of treatment lasts so long. Because the products are so similar to naturally occurring hyaluronic acid there is no need to have a skin test prior to treatment.

What area is Juvederm® used to treat?
Juvederm® is used to correct fine lines, wrinkles and folds and to reshape and enhance lips, chin and cheeks.
