Excessive Sweating (Hyperhydrosis)

Hyperhydrosis or excessive sweating is a condition that affects millions of people around the world. Uncontrolled sweating can occur in various parts of the body including hands, feet and underarms. Although high temperatures or stress can increase perspiration, these don't cause hyperhydrosis. Instead, hyperhydrosis may be an inherited trait that stops the body from properly regulating its temperature. Men can be affected by this condition.

Treatment of choice for this condition is the use of a muscle relaxant. The solution is injected just under the skin in both armpits and targets sweating at its source. Once injected in the affected area, it enters the specific glands responsible for excessive sweating. There it blocks the release of a chemical that signals perspiration. The procedure takes about 20 minutes.

After the first treatment, the effects can last up to 6 months, however the amount of time may vary with each individual. When the symptoms begin to return, you may choose to have another treatment session.

All treatments are carried out by Dr. Montero and are preceded by a thorough consultation and skin assessment.
