frequently asked questionsRosacea

Rosacea is a skin condition that affects part of your face. There are 4 sub-types, one of which is sometimes called ‘Acne rosacea’ as it can look similar, however it is a different condition to acne. The other 3 are: Erythematotelangietatic (flushing, facial redness and broken veins), ocular (affecting the eyes) and Rhinophyma (persistent facial swelling and thickening of the skin, especially on the nose and cheeks)

It is primarily a disorder of the blood vessels that undergo changes and become hyper responsive to internal and external stimuli such as sun exposure, heat, stress, anxiety, rich food, caffeine and alcohol. Affecting approximately 1 in 10 people in the UK,

Rosacea symptoms usually do not start until aged 30-60 but can start earlier. Children are rarely affected and women are more commonly affected than men, but in men the condition is more severe. Rosacea is more common in fair-skinned than dark-skinned people.
