Leg vein removal – discover leg confidence
Leg veins are an unsightly problem for men and women of varying age groups and skin types. If you hate the look of these veins on your legs, we have two effective ways to treat them, leaving smooth skin free of unsightly thread or spider veins.
Get your leg veins under control with treatment from one of the UK’s leading doctors on the subject of cosmetic vascular treatment
Our resident cosmetic doctor Doctor Miguel Montero is a pioneer in the treatment of leg veins. With his experience and unique treatment protocols he is called upon to train doctors around the world on successful laser leg vein removal. To eliminate larger veins Dr Montero offers traditional Microsclerotherapy treatment.
Nd:Yag + Intense Pulsed Laser
Veins up to 2mm in diameter – A combination of Nd:YAG laser and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) targets the vein and delivers a precise energy level that is absorbed by the blood stream. The energy of the light source heats the vessel destroying the walls and filling ability of the vein. After a period of time the vein is broken down and absorbed into the blood stream.
Veins up to 3 mm in diameter (non-varicose) – Microsclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution (a detergent known as Sclerovein) directly into the vein. The lining of the blood vessel is irritated and gradually destroyed.
All treatments are carried out by Dr Miguel Montero and are preceded by a thorough consultation.

Laser Patch Test – £25.00 (non-refundable)
As a safety measure we patch test you before starting any laser treatment. It is usually done on a different appointment to your consultation but you can request for it to be included when booking.
You may experience a feeling of discomfort, which is similar to the snap of an elastic band or a sting. After the treatment, you should be able to work and return to your daily routine immediately, however some bruising may occur.
Typically we can achieve 70-80% clearance but often 100% is reached. The success of a treatment may be linked to factors such as age, lifestyle and general health. Look after your skin and follow your aftercare instructions to minimise the production of new veins.
Most people will see a noticeable improvement immediately, although it could require several sessions before you see the full effect of treatment.
The Laser and IPL equipment used at Discover Laser is of a high specification and you can be assured the number of sessions required to treat you is minimalised, saving you inconvenience and unnecessary expenditure.
Laser treatments can result in bruising and swelling of the treated areas, which may take a few weeks to heal. Once the surface has healed, it may be pink or sensitive to the sun for an additional two to four weeks, or longer in some patients.
Laser and IPL systems provide complete and virtually permanent closure of damaged and ruptured veins, both large and small, near the surface and further below it. Since the vein is completely closed, blood cannot flow back into it; consequently, over time the vein simply disintegrates and is absorbed by the body.
Other treatment types may not produce this complete vein closure. Be aware however, that patients may develop veins in other areas as time passes since the causes of the veins cannot be treated.
There maybe initial discomfort at the point of injection and some patients feel a brief stinging sensation but otherwise the treatment should be fairly painless.
A course of treatment will be recommended to you. This is usually between 2-4 treatments at intervals of 4 weeks minimum.Typically we can achieve 70-80% clearance but often 100% is reached.

The healing process can take some time after treatment and you will need to complete the course recommended before you see the full effect.
You will need wear to compression/support stockings(full leg length) immediately after treatment and for 7 days following treatment. This helps with the efficacy of treatment.
You may have bruising, swelling, aching and or tenderness after treatment. It is common for the area to look worse after but this resolves itself quickly as the side effects of treatment settle down.
You need to wear SPF 50 on the treated areas, when exposed to daylight, throughout the course of treatment and for 6 weeks after your last treatment.
Microsclerotherapy provides complete and virtually permanent closure of superficial veins, both large and small. Since the vein is completely closed, blood cannot flow back into it; consequently, over time the vein simply disintegrates and is absorbed by the body. However veins have a potent regenerative capacity despite meticulous treatment technique and it is important to follow your after care instructions . Keep in mind we are treating the superficial veins and not the deeper leaking valve causing the problem. It is possible for new veins to form after treatment if the deeper causes are not eliminated. In our experience that can take many years and most patients get good long lasting clearance.
If your veins are lumpy visually or to touch, or larger than 3mm diameter your veins are likely to be varicose. You need to first have these seen by a vascular surgeon who will advise you on treatment options. Once these deeper/larger veins have been treated you may then start a course of microscleratherapy or laser.
I recommend Miguel, Gill and the team to anyone looking for a friendly, approachable, yet extremely professional service.
