Over time our skin is gradually depleted of essential nutrients, and is subjected to years of environmental damage – like the sun’s aging rays – and it can become dull, parched and lose its resilience.

Serums containing anti-oxidants are a light and easy way to get added nutrients into deeper layers of the skin, that regular moisturisers are not able to reach.

Vitamins A, C & E and/or Hyaluronic Acid can be added into your daily regime singly or in combination and are generally applied after cleansing and before moisturiser or SPF.

TOPICAL VITAMIN A is one of the best defenses against ageing. It increases cell turnover and improves the external signs of damage on the surface. Best used at night, choose a product with 0.5-1% retinol  (the more easily tolerated form of Vitamin A).

TOPICAL VITAMIN C helps collagen production, has a photo-protective effect and anti-inflammatory properties, whilst Niacinamide helps correct the pigmentation caused by over exposure to the sun, and can boost moisture levels too.

TOPICAL VITAMIN E (Tocopherol) is one of the best anti-oxidants as it scavenges on free radicals in the epidermis.

HYALURONIC ACID is the body’s own hydrating molecule, able to absorb up to 1000 times its own weight in water and is responsible for keeping our skin plump, smooth and supple. Natural levels deplete as we age and serum-based application helps fight off fine lines and loss of skin tone.

There are many major and minor brands out there with serums to suit all pockets. The most important factor is the percentage of active ingredients – choose wisely and your skin will thank you for it.

I am a big fan of serums and feedback from patients on our range of carefully selected products is very positive. If you’re not sure which serums are right for you bob in and see me at our Crow Wood Clinic in Burnley, and I’ll be happy to help.
