Do you have way too many skin products at home? Some you use but most of which you have tried and left in the back of the drawer or cabinet, whilst you moved on to the ‘next big thing’ in beauty.

Try to resist everything that’s recommended and stick to things you know work for you. Ask yourself ‘Am I happy with my skin?’ and if the answer is no, it may be time for a change. We need to mix things up a bit in our daily routine as the seasons change and as we age too.

Changing face

Changing hormones that cause havoc in our teens, can come back to haunt us in later years. And just like we changed products and our routine in our teens, we will need to change them at least every decade. Skin in our 20’s is different to in our 30’s, 40’s and so on.

Essentially what we need in terms of types of products remains the same – it’s just the active ingredients within that need to change.

High Street vs Harley Street

There are many good products available on the high street that work, but in a limited capacity. Most contain only a tiny amount of active ingredients so that skin irritation is minimised, but therefore its effectiveness is minimised too. They won’t do much if your skin is in need of something stronger or more aggressive.

A physician-recommended product might be perceived as more expensive but when compared with the weaker, less effective high street version, they are similarly priced and much more effective due to high concentration of active ingredients allowed under medical care. This makes physician strength products great value for money.

Health Skin = Youthful Skin

Everyone focuses on ageing and a healthy skin ages much slower than an unhealthy one. Think of your routine in terms of cleanse, nourish, treat and protect and you will be well on your way to healthy youthful skin. Look after your skin and it should look after you.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be looking at these areas in more depth, with tips on what to consider when choosing the best products to maintain, or return, your skin to good health.

STEP 1: CLEANSE
