Less time, less discomfort, less money

Larger areas such as legs and backs are done in just 15 minutes on average. That’s almost as quick as waxing, and treatment promises to be more comfortable too.

There are savings to be had on courses of treatment – our prices start at just £25.

Receive personalised advice from a qualified practitioner, who will check your suitability for treatment and discuss your treatment plan. You will be under no obligation to have treatment.

Zimmer Cryo Cooling System

keep-your-coolTo keep you as comfortable as possible we can cool your skin during treatment. Our Zimmer Cryo cooling system is the finest device available for laser hair removal procedures.

Cooled air (up to -20° C) is blown onto your skin during, and after treatment. This reduces skin sensation and thermal temperature making laser treatment safer and more comfortable whatever your skin type.

Laser versus IPL – what you need to know

Lightsheer DeviceLaser hair removal is available on every high street, but not all treatments and practitioners are the same. If you’re considering giving it a go, knowing the differences will make sure you lose hair safely and cost effectively.

What type of treatment am I being offered – Laser or IPL?

It may be called laser hair removal but the equipment being used may be laser or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). Both deliver energy to damage the root of the hair to impede re-growth. However, this is where the similarity ends.

Medical Grade Lasers – Lasers such as Splendor X, which we use at Discover Laser, is an Nd:YAG and Alexandrite combination laser which uses a concentrated beam of light that safely targets hair at the root leaving the surrounding skin intact. It can be fine-tuned to suit your skin and hair type for exceptional results and are safe for all skin tones.

IPL – IPL devices are more commonly found in salons as the equipment is far cheaper. It is also far less effective than laser. The less powerful broad-beam of light targets everything in its path and is unable to reach and destroy the roots of deeper hairs. It is generally only suitable for fairer skin and, in the hands of an unqualified operator, can damage darker skin tones.

Catherine joined Discover Laser in 2015, bringing with her a wealth of experience from over 25 years as a beauty therapist in Burnley and the surrounding area.

As a qualified Reflexologist, Reiki practitioner and teacher of beauty therapy, her patients appreciate her breadth of knowledge and enjoy her holistic approach to treatment.

Having recently added a ‘Core of knowledge’ in lasers and light therapies to her belt, and with her excellent knowledge of skin and hair, she is a key practitioner in our laser hair removal team.

Our medical grade lasers send targeted bursts of light energy to the treatment area, which is then absorbed by hair-filled follicles. Melanin in each hair absorbs the light and turns it to heat energy. This damages the hair follicle and prevents re-growth.

Because lasers work by targeting melanin (the colour in hair) this treatment is unsuitable for those with white hair, certain types of red hair and is less successful for grey and very fair types.

Treatments are customised according to hair colour, texture and location. Any hair with at least some pigment can be treated.

White, white blonde, white/grey hairs and certain red hair types do not generally respond to treatment with laser.

This depends on the density of your hair, skin type and natural hair colour and the location of hair on your body. We recommend a course of six which is generally sufficient. If you have a darker skin type, particularly resistant hairs, or medical conditions such as PCOS you will need more.

Each treatment can take anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour, depending on the size of area being treated.

The number of treatments you will need depends on your hair thickness, hair density and skin type. Several treatments are necessary to achieve the best results.

It is important to understand that hairs in an active growth phase are most affected by treatments. Since all hairs are not in this phase at the same time, several treatments are necessary to achieve the best results. Your practitioner will design a treatment plan for you, including an estimate of how many sessions you will need to get the results you desire.

Our medical-grade laser damages the root of the hair to significantly impede re-growth. Most of the roots do not re-grow but occasionally some do.

In addition, new hairs from previously empty follicles are developing all the time – this means it is usually necessary to have an annual ‘maintenance’ treatment to keep hair free.

Splendor X  produces a rapid pinprick sensation which is reduced by the in-treatment cooling system.

After a Splendor X laser hair removal treatment, hairs will fall out for up to 14 days. Your skin may be a little red immediately after treatment, but this will calm down quickly and you will able to return to your normal daily routine.

Immediately after treatment, the appearance of the treated area will vary depending on the extent of the procedure and your skin type. Side effects, if any, are usually minor. There may be some redness and swelling around the treated hair follicles; this is a desired clinical result indicating that the follicle has responded to treatment. This reaction typically disappears within hours.

Most people return to normal activity right away. On rare occasions, some blistering may occur, but this typically resolves quickly. Your skin can become darker or lighter following treatment, but will generally return to normal within a few weeks. Limiting sun exposure before and after each treatment will minimise the risk of complications.

Most patients are thrilled after their initial few treatments but can become impatient as treatment progresses. It is important to remember the hair growth cycle is the reason that treatment takes weeks to complete.

By following our care instructions given, you will get great results without complications.

Your suitability for treatment will be discussed with you at your free consultation.
