Facial Thread Vein Removal with laser

Thread veins (also known as spider veins) are red or purple broken veins, capillaries and ‘blood spots’ that appear mainly on the cheeks and nose.

Thread veins develop as we age and can run in the family. Hormonal changes in pregnancy and menopause are a factor, as are genetics, alcohol, topical steroid use and underlying skin conditions such as rosacea.

While they are harmless, they can make us feel self-conscious and quite literally red-faced, so it’s understandable that you would want to treat them.

Nd:YAG Laser
The light from the Nd:YAG laser targets the vein and delivers a precise energy level that is absorbed by the blood stream. The heat the light source generates heats the vessel and destroys the walls and the filling ability of the vein. After a period of time the vein is broken down and absorbed into the blood stream.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
This is broadband light that can be filtered to make the procedure fully customisable. Using the most appropriate settings it capable of treating every type of vein disorder, including some deep veins.

Patch Test – £25.00 (non-refundable)
As a safety measure we patch test you before starting any treatment. It is usually done on a different appointment to your consultation but you can request for it to be included when booking.

The treatment isn’t painful and requires no local anaesthetic. However, some patients notice a slight feeling of discomfort, which is similar to the snap of an elastic band or a sting. After the treatment, you should be able to work and return to your daily routine immediately.

Facial vein removal treatment has a high success rate of over 90% and usually requires no further treatment, however every person is different and each vein is individual. In addition, the success of a treatment may be linked to factors such as age, lifestyle and general health. Look after your skin and follow your aftercare instructions to minimise the production of new facial veins.

Most people will see a noticeable improvement immediately, although it could require several sessions before you see the full effect of treatment. The IPL and laser equipment used at Discover Laser is of a high specification and you can be assured the number of sessions required to treat you is minimalised, saving you inconvenience and unnecessary expenditure.

Laser treatments can result in swelling, blistering, crusting, or flaking of the treated areas, which may require one to three weeks to heal. Once the surface has healed, it may be pink or sensitive to the sun for an additional two to four weeks, or longer in some patients. With some lasers, bruising of the treated area may occur. Additionally, there may be some swelling noted and skin infections may occur, whenever a skin procedure is performed.

During the healing process, there is a slight possibility that the treated area can become either lighter or darker in colour compared to the surrounding skin. The darkening is usually temporary, but the lightening may be permanent. Scarring is a rare occurrence, but it is a possibility when the skin’s surface is disrupted. To minimize the changes of scarring, it is important that you follow all post-treatment instructions carefully.

The combined light sources of IPL and Nd:YAG offer important benefits over injection therapy. They allow treatment of matting and small spider vessels that are often too small to inject. In addition Laser/IPL is fast, less painful and minimally invasive without needles.

Laser/IPL systems provide complete and virtually permanent closure of damaged and ruptured veins, both large and small, near the surface and further below it. Since the vein is completely closed, blood cannot flow back into it; consequently, over time the vein simply disintegrates and is absorbed by the body.

Other treatment types may not produce this complete vein closure. Be aware however, that patients may develop veins in other areas as time passes since the causes of the veins cannot be treated.

I went for my first consultation to discuss having some blood veins removed from my face. What a lovely surprise, the place is amazing, so clean and new looking, Dr. Montero and staff where brilliant and calmed my nerves almost immediately.

My consultation consisted of having the usual health questions and then having some photographs taken of my face (magnified a zillion times) what a brilliant piece of equipment. They didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t want, the doctor just focused on what I had come for.

The price was a lot, lot cheaper than I expected, believe me I walked out of their with a big smile on my face, finally I’m able to get rid of these unsightly marks I’ve walked around with for year. I can not wait to go back for my next treatment.

I would highly recommend to family & friends.

Sandra Horgan – Burnley

I visited Discover Laser to see if anything could be done with some awful thread veins on my nose, which I had put up with for around 30 years.

After 5 or 6 visits they have completely gone and my self confidence is sky high. I can’t speak highly enough of the people at Discover Laser, they were extremely professional and their surgery was absolutely spotless. Thank you.
