I often get asked for makeup tips for hooded eyes, so I thought I’d share some with you.
Some of the world’s most beautiful women have a hooded eye shape – it’s not a ‘problem’ it’s just a different shape like any other. These tips will help make your eyes appear more lifted and open.
STEP ONE – LIGHT TONE
Start as usual with your base colour of choice – a light to medium tone. This is the colour you often don’t see on hooded eyes so bring a little above your crease.
STEP TWO – MEDIUM TONE
Your crease is where we create the more lifted effect with a matt medium tone – avoid shimmery eye shadows in the crease as this draws attention to the eyes making them look heavier and smaller.
Gently work the shadow into the crease back and forth. Looking straight ahead into the mirror, with your brow relaxed, blend the colour slightly above your natural crease so you can see the colour when your eyes are open. Don’t go too high, the aim is to create the illusion of where your socket line would be if you didn’t have hooded eyes.
STEP THREE – DARKER TONE
If you want to intensify the look now apply a slightly darker shade.
Make an outer ‘v’ shape extending out from where your lower lash line ends, upwards to give a lifted effect, then blending into your outer natural crease and slightly above again into the “faux” crease. Open your eyes again to check you can see the colour with them open. Don’t forget to blend.
STEP FOUR – EYELINER
On the top lash line use a pencil (black, grey or brown) and work it well into the roots of your lashes all the way along. Using a small brush dipped in a bit of your darkest shadow, blend it well – you are not trying to achieve a perfect line. You don’t want a thick line either, when you open your eyes it is all you will see and will make them appear smaller.
Gently bring your darkest shade of shadow under your lower lash line just concentrating on the outer third. Keep it soft and smudgy and this will make your eyes appear larger and more wide awake.
STEP FIVE – HIGHLIGHT
Apply a highlight to your brow bone to give a lifted effect and also to the inner corner of your eyes to make them appear bigger and brighter.
STEP SIX – MASCARA
Apply lashings of mascara.
Lift your brow area with your free hand to avoid any mascara transferring onto your eyelid. If you do just wait till dry and wipe off with q-tip.
STEP SEVEN – FINISHING TOUCHES
Groom your brows to create a nice neat arch to frame your eyes and makes them appear more lifted.
If you’re looking for a permanent solution to baggy eyelids, Dr Miguel Montero is achieving incredible results with Plexr® non-surgical blepharoplasty – a safe, non-invasive, and effective alternative to surgery.
As we age, our eyelids may become droopy or baggy. This can cause a tired or older appearance and they may even droop low enough to impair your vision.
Until now, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) has been the only method to remove and tighten excess eyelid skin. You can now choose Plexr treatment at Discover Laser – a non-surgical blepharoplasty which is non-invasive, very low risk, has minimal side effects and far less downtime.
