Meet our clinical team
Miguel is a member of the European Laser Association, British Medical Laser Association, British College of Aesthetic Medicine, British Association of Dermatologists, and the Primary Care Dermatology Society. He is the lead in CPD and one of only a few Doctors to hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Cosmetic Medicine from the University of Leicester and an MSc in Non-surgical Cosmetic Interventions from UCLan. He holds a PGDip in Dermatology from Queen Mary University, London.
Miguel teachers Doctors, Nurses and Dentists on various aspects of Aesthetic Medicine; works closely with and presents for Lumenis, a world renown laser company; is a speaker at Aesthetic Medicine conferences worldwide; contributes to industry publications; and is an Appraiser and Mentor for BCAM.
Dr Arif Aslam is a Consultant Dermatologist, fellowship trained, specialising in Mohs surgery – the leading technique for removing facial skin cancers.
He’s one of a few select specialists working in the UK to have completed an accredited American College of Mohs Surgery fellowship – the world’s leading membership organisation specialising in Mohs micrographic surgery and reconstruction.
Arif’s been practising medicine since 2004. Born and raised in Lancashire, he completed his training in general medicine and general practice before training in dermatology in Manchester.

He is a registered specialist dermatologist and Mohs surgeon in the UK and Australia. He is substantive consultant dermatologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Professor Ali graduated from Trinity College, University of Cambridge, with a Double First in pre-clinical medicine before completing clinical studies at Christ Church, University of Oxford. He is one of very few dermatologists to have been awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS).
He completed a highly competitive advanced dermatological surgery fellowship (including Mohs micrographic surgery and laser dermatology) in the world-renowned St Johns Institute of Dermatology based in Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London.
He is an honorary professor of UCLAN and is frequently asked to teach and lecture throughout the UK and internationally.
Deborah joined us as an Aesthetic Nurse in December 2012 and is our lead Dermatology and Mohs Surgery Support.
Deborah is well known in the Burnley area, thanks to over 30 years of dedicated service as a community nurse. She has been involved with Discover Laser since its inception in 2008, attending training and events to learn treatment skills and extend her knowledge of skin and hair function.
Patients can be assured of her kind and understanding nature and benefit from her extensive experience and attention to detail.
Deborah lives with her husband Steve, who was operations director for Discover Laser until his retirement in 2020, continuing the family-oriented nature of the company that contributes so well to its success.
Sarah joined Discover Laser in 2010 as Patient Co-ordinator. She is a familiar face to many of our long-term patients.
Her interest in all things skin quickly developed and in 2011 she achieved a Diploma in Anti-Ageing from Stonebridge College and ‘Core of knowledge’ in lasers and light therapies.
Keen to develop her skills as a therapist, Sarah undertook a Level 4 VTCT qualification in Lasers and Light Therapies, qualifying with distinction in March 2015. In 2021, she qualified as a Healthcare Assistant and now regularly supports our Mohs Surgeon.
Sarah has also received mineral makeup training at Harley Street Skin in London. Her natural ability to understand the needs of individuals allows her to help patients with their skincare and makeup needs.
As a qualified Reflexologist, Reiki practitioner and teacher of beauty therapy, her patients appreciate her breadth of knowledge and enjoy her holistic approach to treatment.
With a ‘Core of Knowledge’ in lasers and light therapies and with her excellent knowledge of skin and hair, she is a key practitioner in our laser hair removal team. In 2021, she qualified as a Healthcare Assistant and now regularly supports our Mohs Surgeon.
A skincare expert, she qualified in South Africa in 1993 and has practised in clinics all over the North-West, specialising in Laser and IPL treatment.
She has lectured in beauty therapy and trained doctors, nurses and beauty therapists in advanced skin analysis and care. She has also practised at Salford Royal Hospital in a dedicated PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) clinic.
In 2021, she qualified as a Healthcare Assistant, and went on to Wolverhampton University where she qualified as a Lab Technician, she now regularly supports our Mohs Surgery Team.
Sophie undertook a placement in our clinic in 2021 while studying for her Neuroscience degree at the University of Central Lancashire.
During her initial time with us, she developed a passion for patient-centred care and a desire to further her knowledge of medicine, particularly surgery. Her enthusiasm, sunny disposition, and obvious talent encouraged us to invite her to join our team.
Sophie’s academic journey has been remarkable. After achieving a first-class degree, she is now pursuing a Masters in Physician Associate Studies, with a particular focus on dermatology.
Her love for this field is evident in her dedication to developing her knowledge and skills in her role as Heath Care Assistant to our Mohs Surgeons.
Meet our operations team
Gill is Clinic Director and is responsible for Finance, Marketing and Business Strategy. She has over 30 years experience in commercial and financial management and brings a wealth of experience and expertise.
Gill holds the Core of Knowledge in the use of lasers and is actively involved in the day to day functioning of the clinic, helping with the smooth running of the business and facilitating the work of the clinicians.
Carol joined Discover Laser in 2018 as Patient Co-ordinator and made the transition to Clinic Manager in 2023. She is responsible for the smooth running of our clinic, keeping the entire Discover Laser Team organised and ensures our patients are well looked after.
She will give you a warm Burnley welcome accompanied by her trademark sunny smile when you visit our clinic.
Carol has a wealth of experience in patient focus and patient care from over ten years as Consulting Suite Administrator at Gisburne Park Hospital.
Lisa is the newest addition to the Discover Laser team. She joined us in 2023 and is already a part of the family and a strong member of our team.
As Patient Co-ordinator, she ensures our patients feel looked after from their first phone call, during their visits to our clinic and beyond.
With a background in quality control, she brings incredible attention to detail to her patient care.
