Why photorejuvenation is best for removing age spots and sun damage

Photorejuvenation is a non-surgical approach for treating age spots and sun damage. It uses a powerful light-based technology to target unwanted pigment without harming surrounding skin. In just a few simple treatment sessions, pigment appears lighter and your skin looks clearer and younger.

Photorejuvenation is one of our most popular skin rejuvenating treatments for the face and can also be highly effectively on the neck, décolletage and hands.

Cutting edge technology

Our Lumenis One platform is a fourth generation intense pulsed light and ND:Yag system. This patented state of the art technology coupled with our in-treatment cooling system provides safe and comfortable treatment.

A course of four non-invasive treatments can correct sun damage by treating the underlying problem without harming the skin’s surface.

Two treatments in one

While undergoing photorejuvenation any broken/veins or capillaries you may have in the treatment area are also treated.

Photorejuventation can be used to treat:

  • Sun Damage
  • Age Spots
  • Broken Capillaries

We use Intense Pulse Light (IPL) laser technology to direct targeted light energy at the affected areas. Each pulse produces specific light wavelengths that are absorbed into the skin and turned into heat energy.

The heat energy stimulates the cells that produce elastin and collagen and reaches the blood vessels and melanin that causes broken veins and brown marks. This removes veins and marks and encourages the skin to grow, reducing wrinkles and restoring a smooth and more youthful even complexion.

Any discomfort during the treatment is limited to an extremely short pulse which patients report as feeling like the snap of a rubber band. This may range from mild to moderate and does not last long. Our in-treatment cooling system lessens the sensation, making the treatment comfortable and aids post treatment recovery.

We recommend a course of 4 treatments but depending on the severity of your condition it may be more. This will be discussed with you during your initial consultation.

Immediately after treatment your skin will be a little red and will feel a little tight – as if you’ve been in the sun. This should subside over a few hours.

Age spots, marks and some sun-induced freckles may go dark – these will stay dark and turn to dust and fall off over the days that follow. Veins too may be darker than pretreatment, but this too is normal and they will start to fade as they are absorbed by the body.

You will be advised to wear sunscreen (min SPF30) daily and you will be able to wear makeup (mineral only foundation-powder preferred) once your skin has settled down, generally after a couple of hours.

Rarely, swelling, blisters and bruising may occur. If this does, our medical team is on hand for advice.

At your consultation you can discuss what results to expect. Remember you are on a course of treatments and that your improvement will be progressive throughout the course and after.

You will be advised to wear sunscreen (min SPF30) everyday after treatment. To prevent further sun damage you will be advised to start using a Vitamin C serum, which is proven to neutralise free radicals on the skin before they cause damage. By following the aftercare advice given to you after treatment you will enjoy and maintain great results.

At your appointment our Practitioner will assess your skin health and check your suitability for treatment. Together you can talk about what you would like to achieve, treatment options, expected outcomes, and your questions can be answered.
