Freedom from redness, flushing & broken veins caused by Rosacea

Rosacea is primarily a disorder of the blood vessels that undergo changes and become over responsive to internal and external stimuli such as sun exposure, heat, stress, anxiety, rich food, caffeine and alcohol.

Get your rosacea under control, with treatment at one of the UK’s leading cosmetic vascular treatment clinics

There is no permanent cure for rosacea but facial redness, flushing and veins can be greatly reduced through highly effective laser treatments. Our fully-qualified resident practitioners are highly experienced and skilled in delivering this type of procedure.

Doctor Montero, our Principal Aesthetic Doctor, has been helping people with rosacea since 2007. Initially, under the guidance of esteemed laser specialist, the late Doctor Peter Crouch, Doctor Montero was introduced to unique laser protocols which he still uses today. He has also developed his own three-part treatment combination, which dramatically reduces the signs and symptoms of rosacea giving his  patients long-lasting relief and increased confidence.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Doctor Montero and his team deliver treatment with the Lumenis One IPL system using unique protocols developed by rosacea specialist Doctor Peter Crouch.

IPL has been clinically proven to successfully reduce facial redness, flushing and broken veins. It works by using light energy to target the problem capillaries in your skin. The heat generated destroys your problem blood vessels which your body then reabsorbs, leaving your complexion paler and more even in tone. Depending on the severity of your condition, it may need more than 4 treatments to achieve the clearance you are looking for.

Laser
Laser treatments help reduce the occurrence of flushing and redness. In the same way as IPL, laser targets the excess of capillaries and destroys them, greatly reducing the sensation and visibility of facial redness and flushing.

Depending on the type and extent of your condition, it may be appropriate to use both IPL and Laser to treat your symptoms.

Hydrafacial
HydraFacial MD® is a non-invasive, multistep treatment that combines the benefits of next-level hydradermabrasion, a chemical peel, automated painless extractions (no pinching!) and a special delivery of Antioxidants, Hyaluronic Acid and Peptides. It does all of this in one quick treatment that delivers real results without downtime or irritation. It successfully helps with rosacea pustules and facial redness.

Rosacea is a potentially life-disruptive blood vessel disorder that affects the face, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Affecting women and men, it typically begins after age 30 as redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead. Over time, redness often becomes ruddier and more persistent, and blood vessels may appear. Left untreated, pustules often develop, and in severe cases skin may swell and thicken.

There are four different types of rosacea with different symptoms. It is possible to have more than one type and therefore have a combination of symptoms.

Type 1: Erythematotelangiectatic (ETTR) – flushing, facial redness and broken facial veins.

Type 2: Papulo Pustula Rosacea (PPR) – cysts and pustules, that look similar to acne. It is often called ‘acne rosacea’ however it is a different condition.

Type 3: Rhinophyma – persistent facial swelling and thickening of the skin, especially on the nose and cheek.

Type 4: Ocular – stinging itchy eyes, dryness, sensitivity to light, eyelid inflammation.

Symptoms vary from patient to patient and from mild to severe. Most patients have mild to moderate symptoms and although it is not a painful condition and won’t make you feel unwell, often the symptoms are difficult to live with.

The exact cause of rosacea is unknown. It is primarily a disorder of the blood vessels that undergo changes becoming leaky and over responsive to internal and external stimuli such as sun exposure, heat, stress, anxiety, rich food, caffeine and alcohol. It could be inherited genetically and it is common to find other family members already have or develop symptoms.

Other contributing factors may be:

  • Environmental damage such as over exposure to sun, cold and wind.
  • A harmless skin mite (demodex follicularum) which is found in higher numbers in rosacea sufferers

Affecting approximately 1 in 10 people in the UK, rosacea symptoms usually do not start until aged 30-60 but can start earlier. Women are more commonly affected, but in men the condition is often more severe. Rosacea is more common in fair-skinned than dark-skinned people.

There is no permanent cure for Rosacea, but laser treatments can significantly reduce type one and two symptoms. For more severe type three and four symptoms you need to consult your doctor who may recommend medication, refer you to an ophthalmologist or suggest a consultation with a plastic surgeon.

Some symptoms like redness and flushing can be triggered by factors such as hot and spicy foods, alcohol, extreme temperature changes, exercise, stress and sun exposure and it best to try to avoid those that trigger your particular symptoms.

Each sign or symptom may progress from mild to moderate to severe, so it is best to get an early diagnosis and treatment.

Consult a knowledgable medical practitioner or dermatologist for a correct diagnosis. Ask for treatment recommendations and where possible, avoid situations that trigger your symptoms.

Treatment varies for each rosacea type. Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and/or laser have been clinically proven to successfully reduce facial redness, flushing and broken veins.

They work by using light energy to target the problem capillaries in your skin. The heat generated destroys your problem blood vessels which your body then reabsorbs. The majority of patients can be successfully treated and also find that laser contributes to an improved skin appearance.

People with Papulo Pustula Rosacea (PPR) respond better to a combination of IPL/Laser and oral or topical antibiotics.

Ocular types need the expertise of an Ophthalmologist and Rhinophyma types needs the expertise of a plastic surgeon.

The number of treatments you require depends on the severity of your rosacea. However, because of the high specification of our IPL/ lasers, you’ll need fewer treatments with us than a clinic performing a similar procedure with inferior equipment.

The average is 4, but depending on the severity, it can take more. This will be discussed with you during the initial consultation.

The treatment doesn’t hurt although you may notice a sensation similar to the snap of an elastic band or a sting with each laser flash. It won’t disrupt your daily routine and you should be able to go back to work straight away with no obvious signs that you’ve had treatment.

You may have a little redness immediately after treatment but this will subside quickly. You need to wear sunscreen (min SPF 30) to protect your skin during the course of your treatment.

Depending on the severity of your rosacea, you could notice an improvement a few days after your initial treatment and the majority of the patients will respond well.

However the recommended number of treatments is 4 and this is for a reason. The veins causing your rosacea will be of different sizes and at different depths. Our lasers target these veins in layers and will remove different ones each treatment.

It is our experience that sufferers of mild to moderate rosacea should see a marked improvement in their symptoms after 4 treatments. If you need more treatments, it will take longer to see a marked change.

As a long-term sufferer of rosacea, I have been delighted with the huge improvement in the condition that has been achieved by the innovative treatment provided by Miguel.

“There has a been a significant reduction in flushing episodes – virtually to zero. Skin breakouts similarly are rare and by no means as ‘distressing’ as they were before I started attending sessions. Changes to my skin tone and appearance are definitely noticeable and have been commented on by family, friends,
and work colleagues.

“I had ‘resigned’ myself  to living with the condition before Miguel was recommended to me, and did not expect the vast improvements that he has managed to achieve in relatively few sessions.

Discover Laser Patient – Burnley

I am a 40 year old, white female. In my mid-thirties I started having red facial flushes across my nose and cheeks. They were triggered when I had an alcoholic drink so I jokingly called them “red wine flushes”. However, they started to get worse and began to happen when I got stressed or hot. They got so bad, I looked and felt like a cooked lobster and I started to feel very self-conscious.

Around the same time, one side of my face broke out in adolescent-like acne, which I had never suffered from before. I tried all sorts of topical skin cleansers from the chemist but nothing cleared the spots and covering them with heavy makeup made them worse. This went on for a prolonged period of time and became increasingly upsetting.

I heard about Discover Laser from a friend. I was quite nervous when I went for my consultation, as I wasn’t sure what to expect. I needn’t have worried, the team were very friendly and put me at ease as soon as I arrived at the clinic.

In my free consultation Dr Montero took photographs of my face using Beau Visage so he could see what was happening under the surface of my skin. He quickly identified that I had early onset mild rosacea – this was a condition I had never heard of before.

Dr Montero explained rosacea is a disorder in the blood vessels of the face and causes the symptoms I had been experiencing. He recommended a course of 4 laser treatments, over 4 months, that would destroy the problem capillaries and help to control my symptoms.

I was nervous (again) at the prospect of having laser treatment on my face – I was particularly worried that it would be very painful. I was very relieved to use the in-treatment cooling system which blows cold air onto your face and “numbs” it. As the laser pulses on your face it feels like you are getting “flicked” but the cooling device makes it very tolerable (and I admit to being a complete wimp when it comes to pain).

I noticed a major difference in my symptoms after the completion of my treatment. My breakouts, redness and flushing are now completely under control and to help my condition I now use a soap-free cleanser, wear factor 30 sunscreen every day and only use high-grade mineral make-up. When I do experience any mild recurring symptoms I go for a top-up treatment.

I am so grateful to Dr Montero and his team – when you have a problem like rosacea, which is on your face for the whole world to see, it can be very upsetting and eat away at your confidence. The treatment I have received has made a huge difference to my well-being.
