Rhinophyma Treatment

Trusted by patients across the UK, Dr Miguel Montero uses advanced CO₂ laser technology to restore natural skin contours and ease breathing difficulties.

Improve the appearance of your nose and functionality of your skin

Rhinophyma, a severe form of rosacea, can impact confidence and quality of life.

Characterised by thickened, uneven skin on the nose, Rhinophyma often develops from untreated or severe rosacea. Commonly affecting men over 40, it can leave anyone feeling self-conscious and unsure where to turn.

UltraPulse CO2 laser treatment restores natural contours and self-assurance

Linked to advanced or untreated rosacea, Rhinophyma develops gradually and, like other types of rosacea, can be triggered by sun exposure, alcohol, spicy foods or stress. While early medication intervention can help, Rhinophyma often requires a more targeted approach to address the thickened tissue and restore the nose’s natural shape.

Rhinophyma is a severe form of rosacea that causes thickened, uneven skin on the nose, often leading to a bulbous or enlarged appearance.
The exact cause is unknown, but it is linked to advanced or untreated rosacea. Factors such as genetics, sun exposure, and alcohol consumption can exacerbate the condition.
Rhinophyma predominantly affects men over the age of 40, especially those with fair skin and a history of rosacea.
While not life-threatening, rhinophyma can cause significant physical and emotional discomfort. Severe cases may even obstruct nasal airflow, affecting breathing.
Early treatment of rosacea and avoiding triggers such as sun exposure, alcohol, and spicy foods can help prevent progression to rhinophyma.
Diagnosis is typically made through a physical examination and medical history. In rare cases, a biopsy may be needed to rule out other conditions.
Although rhinophyma is more common in men, women with untreated rosacea can also develop the condition.
Gentle, non-irritating skincare products with SPF protection are ideal. Avoid harsh exfoliants or products that can trigger rosacea symptoms.
Treatments include medical management for rosacea and advanced procedures like laser therapy (e.g., UltraPulse CO2), dermabrasion, or surgical excision for severe cases.
The UltraPulse CO2 laser is ideal for Rhinophyma because it allows us to target thickened areas of the skin with incredible accuracy. The results are not just aesthetic – treatment can relieve discomfort and even improve breathing in severe cases.

Precise and safe, the advanced laser technology removes excess tissue layer by layer, smoothing and reshaping the skin while preserving healthy underlying structures.

Unlike surgery, laser treatment is minimally invasive with less downtime, allowing our patients to return to normal routines within a week.”

Most patients report mild discomfort during laser treatment, which is managed with local anaesthesia and cooling techniques.
Recovery typically takes 1-2 weeks. Initial redness and swelling subside as the skin heals, revealing smoother contours.
Laser treatment offers long-lasting results, but managing underlying rosacea with skincare and lifestyle changes is essential to prevent recurrence.
Risks are minimal when performed by an experienced practitioner. Potential side effects include temporary redness, swelling, and rare scarring.
While treated tissue does not regrow, untreated or poorly managed rosacea can cause further skin changes. Ongoing care is recommended.
Improvement is usually noticeable within weeks, with optimal results visible after full healing, typically around 4-6 weeks.

At your appointment our Practitioner will assess your skin health and check your suitability for treatment. Together you can talk about what you would like to achieve, treatment options, expected outcomes, and your questions can be answered.
